Snow Reporter Comments: Fresh Snow Alert! In the last 24 hours, we received 4-5” of new snow, bringing our storm total to 16-18". It looks like the storm is sticking around through the weekend, with intermittent snow showers this morning. We expect heavy snowfall to begin later on today. At this time, upper-mountain lifts are not expected to operate due to low visibility and high winds today or through the weekend. Be prepared for the weather with extra layers, a face mask and low light lenses for your goggles. There will be rope closures up throughout the ski area due to avalanche danger, so be mindful and do not duck the ropes. These closures are up for your safety as well as the safety of other guests and our employees. Ducking a closure will result in a 30 day loss of your season pass or if you have a multi day ticket, the rest of the days voided on your ticket purchase. If you are traveling to the area today, be prepared with chains in your vehicle in addition to food, water and blankets. Keep an eye on CalTrans for real time road conditions. Take your time traveling and be safe.

First Hand Report

Icy, hard packed but softened up around 930am. There's a bit of powder on top of the hard packed snow that was really fun to ride through. Great day considering no recent fresh snow!

Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort Overview With the highest lift-served terrain in the state of California at 11,053 feet and more than 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, Mammoth Mountain lives up to its name. Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort lies on the eastern edge of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. It’s 330 miles east of San Francisco and 310 miles north of Los Angeles, making for a five-to seven-hour drive. Situated within hours of Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, and June Mountain, the resort provides a great starting point to explore the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Most visitors stay in the town of Mammoth Lakes, which offers up restaurants, bars and plenty to do for those seeking a nightlife scene. Mammoth Mountain was founded in 1953 by Dave McCoy. It averages an impressive 400 inches of annual snowfall, allowing it to have one of the longest ski seasons in the country. In the winter of 2017, the resort was open from November to early August! The mountain is great for all levels, with options ranging from expansive bowls, tree skiing, wide groomers, steep chutes, halfpipes, and the world-class Unbound Terrain Parks.
