IMO, the most important feature of any boot is the FIT. A common mistake is to buy boots that are too big. Most boots adapt to your foot shape over time, so make sure they are on the snug side when purchasing them. If they are super comfy in the shop, they'll likely end up too big after 10 days on the hill. Read up on how to evaluate boot fit before going to the ski shop to try some on.

The next step: After skiing in your snug new boots for a few days, stop back in the shop and look into custom footbeds. The insoles that come with your new boots are good for getting you in the right size shell, and getting you started. Custom footbeds cradle your feet, support your arches, and help keep your heel in the pocket without overtightening your buckles. Now you have improved edge control and energy transfer!

Ski a couple of days, then stop back in the shop to have them analyze your canting needs. Bowlegged, knock-need, pronated, supenated, our leg bone structures are all different to some degree. Some shops may cant the cuffs of your boots. You can also have cants placed under your bindings. This step is very important if you want to ski like your favorite Olympian, your extreme ski hero, or to keep advancing your skiing goals.

Keep your skis waxed and tuned!
