Helly Hansen Elevation Shell Jacket review. OnTheSnow reviewed this shell jacket as part of its 2016/2017 Jacket Buyers' Guide.

Favorite Features: The Elevation is Helly’s latest freeride jacket, taking protection and breathability to new heights with its three-ply fabric construction, DWR finish, fully seamed-sealed design and an air-permeable membrane fabric. High visibility colors remain a go-to for Helly this year, and the Winter Aqua colorway tested will ensure your years spent chasing that perfect turn don’t go unnoticed. We especially liked the pack-friendly pit zips located up front and the built in RECCO reflectors.

Room for Improvement: If we have anything negative to say about this jacket, it’s that it’s a bit heavy—but with this many features, it’s more than understandable.

Fit: The medium tested fit true to size and delivered ample coverage along the bottom hem thanks to a longer length fit. We found enough room through the trunk and arms to add additional layering, and the high collar should prove invaluable on storm days.

On-Snow Performance: Helly Hansen's Elevation Shell impressed our tester, who was able to get a base and mid-layer underneath the freeride fit, keeping the windy 20-degree weather at bay and staying warm and dry in conditions that would otherwise stretch many other jackets to the max. Providing a full range of motion with comfort, the forward positioned pit zips offer convenient temperature control, especially while wearing a backpack—making this a strong option for the back/side country. The strong zipper pulls allow easy access to the pockets.
