2016/2017 Salomon Stella ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s Powder Category.

Part of Salomon’s new four-ski freeride QST line, the Stella wins the widest waist contest of the line with 106 mm’s of girth underfoot. Testers favored the Stella’s powder performance over its carving acumen, though the scores were similar across the board. “Like popcorn, this ski is poppy, quick and lively,” says Johnson. “It floats easily on top of powder and can hold a decent edge when requested.” The Stella 106 sports a new material called CFX Superfiber, a flax weave used for its high strength-to-weight ratio. The sandwich sidewall construction includes Salomon’s Spaceframe full wood core, reinforced with a titanium “Power Platform” under the binding area. The Stella has a wide, rockered tip, plus a hook free, tapered and rockered tail. “It’s a versatile charger or cruiser, depending on the driver,” says Brown.
