2016/2017 Elan 84 XTi ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its men’s All-Mountain Front Category.

Over the past few seasons, Elan’s Amphibio series skis have earned their highest ratings in the carving criteria, and the 84 XTi is no exception to that trend. “Holds an edge from start to finish,” says Hill. “All skier types could feel comfortable right from clicking into the bindings.” The 84-mm-waisted ski scored lower numbers in versatility and stability, in part because heavier, more aggressive testers found the ski “unsteady on steep, hard snow,” says Witman. “But it’s quick, light and loves short turns.” Ski specs for the 84 XTi include Amphibio 4D technology, which creates a cambered inside edge and a rockered outside edge to form a right and left ski. The 4D iteration adds Dual Shaped Ti technology, which creates a unique front and back shape—a convex tip for easy entrance into the turn and a concave tail for better turn exit.
