Belgium is home to one main ski resort – Monte des Brumes – located between Francorchamps and La Gleize. The Alpine-style ski resort is nestled in the north of the country and has a top skiing altitude of 530 metres.

Beginners can learn and improve their new skills on the 150-metre-long wide gentle green slope while intermediate skiers take to the 850-metre-long red run with a vertical drop of 200 metres. In total, the1000-metre-long run is accessed by four lifts (two for the red and two for the green). The resort has a total lift capacity of more than 1,000 skiers per hour. Warm drinks and snacks are served at the restaurant at the top of the ski slope.

The ski centre is open daily throughout winter from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Monte des Brumes is located approximately 50 kilometres from the city and airport of Liege and 140 kilometres from Brussels, the country’s capital. There are numerous low-cost airlines that operate flights between Brussels and many European capitals.

Skiing in Monte des Brumes is often combined with city breaks to Brussels. The capital has grown from a 10th-century fortress town into a metropolis. It is perhaps best known as a centre of international politics. It is home to the European Union and headquarters of NATO.

Brussels also boasts historic sights such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Grand Place with a Gothic town hall in the old centre; Royal Laken Castle with its greenhouses; and the 11th-century St Michael and Gudula Cathedrals at the Treurenberg hill.

The city of Liege is close to Monte des Brumes. Highlights of that city include the 16th-century Palace of the Prince Bishops of Liege; the cathedral of Saint-Paul with the treasury and St Lambert’s tomb; the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art; and the Museum of Walloon Life.

Visitors can while away an afternoon strolling through the historical city centre, the Caree, the Hores-Chateau, the Outremeuse, and the shady parks and attractive boulevards along the Meuse River. A trip to Liege isn’t complete without climbing the 400 steps of the Montagne de Bueren, which leads up from the Hors-Chateau to the Citadel.
